Boat Racing is HOT at AMSOIL

The Eastcoast Marine/AMSOIL Team Turn in a Dominating Performance in the Offshore Racing Circuit

1989 was another great year for AMSOIL and East Coast Marine, a fantastic marine-products deaalership and AMSOIL Retail Account in West Babylon, New York.  Eastcoast Marine is owned by offshore boat-racer Joey Imprescia.  AMSOIL-ized boats sponsored by East Coast Marine were National Champions in several classes and dominated the offshore racing circuit.

Imprescia had his own successes this year.  In the Suncoast Offshore Grand Prix at Sarasota (FL), Joey stunned the entire racing field when his Eastcoast Marine boat beat out the two heavily favored, state-of-the-art superboats after starting nearly four minutes after the combined Super/Open Classes got underway.  Imprescia needed less than 75 miles to catch and pass every boat on the course.  He averaged a blistering 105.91 mph (just shy of the course record), compared to the next-best 93.87 mph.  The victory earned him a two-page spread in the August '89 edition of Powerboat Magazine (shown below).

Imprescia is impressed with the performance of AMSOIL and believes that there is no other test for an oil like that of offshore racing:  "You have to remember what kind of conditions these boats and engines have to endure.  It's not like a car; these boats are not simply moving across a semi-frictionless surface like a NASCAR or Indy Racer.  There's much more stress on the engine because there's constant drag.  A good comparison might be like getting into your car at home and winding it out as fast as you can while your foot is firmly placed on the brake.  If you power-brake like this for 2½ hours you get some idea of what these motors go through.  As far as gears go, it's not the same as a car either: in a boat you're bouncing back and forth erratically between waves at high speeds and at all angles, so the gears in your engine really take a beating...

"As you can imagine, the motors generate a tremendous amount of heat.  And when you're going down a 35-mile straight-away at over 100 miles per hour, you need an oil that's going to keep your engines running.  Simply put, a conventional oil just can't stand up to that kind of punishment -- they break down and eventually cause damage to an engine.

"I can't be happier with the overall performance of AMSOIL.  What I'm most impressed with is that the oil does exactly what AMSOIL says it does:  It increases engine life, adds more power, provides easier starts, keeps engines cleaner, doesn't load up, and it coats the engines with a great protective film.

"I'm the throttleman on the Eastcoast Marine.  It has two Buick V8 372 cubic inch engines that develop 655 hp.  I've found that the throttle response using AMSOIL is much better than any other oil.

"What comes into focus real quick is just how cost effective this oil is.  I've done some testing of my own.  I've used Mobil 1 in some races and noticed considerably more wear and tear, and you go through components faster.  AMSOIL gives much better protection to the engine parts that really need it.  With Stu Hayim's boat, the Recovery, for instance, those huge racing engines went 1300 miles on its outdrives in extremely harsh racing conditions whereas generally the engines will last only 400 miles before you have to replace the roller bearings and thrust bearings.  In other words, AMSOIL prolonged the motor life by more than three times."

The East Coast Marine/AMSOIL Team have truly made a name for themselves in offshore racing; they are almost guaranteed even more victories at sea!

AMSOIL extends its thanks and congratulations to Eastcoast Marine's Joey Imprescia and AMSOIL Executive Direct Jobber Matt Konig for their continued dedication and spectacular success.

Joey Imprescia's Eastcoast Marine boat, a 32' 655 HP Superboat, earned a two-page spread this August in Powerboat Magazine by winning the Sarasota Suncoast Offshore Grand Prix.

The AMSOIL-ized Crazy Cat, owned by racer Brian Dovesac, was the APBA 1988 and 1989 Class 3 High Points Champion.
