Hospital Cuts Their Energy Consumption

By Switching to AMSOIL Synthetic

Compressor Oils!

The following letter was written by the Engineering Director of Perth Amboy General Hospital to Maddox Machines,
thanking them for introducing AMSOIL Synthetic Compressor Oils to the Hospital.

For the past six months we have been evaluating and testing the performance of AMSOIL Synthetic Lubricants.

The first area of evaluation was with the rotary air compressor on our 600-HP CleaverBrooks boiler which is used for air/oil atomization. The motor which drives this compressor is a 4-HP motor.

The test consisted of first monitoring the amperage over the course of a weeks operation of the boiler. This established a basic electrical consumption curve. We then changed the lubricant to the AMSOIL ROT Synthetic Rotary Compressor Lubricant.

Two dramatic occurrences took place:

1. The sound or frequency tone had a noticeable change in that the compressor became quieter.

2. More significantly, the ampere recorder indicated between a 10 to 15% electrical reduction.

The second application took place in the area of reciprocating compressors. We have a poured concrete mezzanine, which has three 25-HP Ingersoll-Rand vacuum pumps, two 25-HP reciprocating oil-free metal air compressors and two 5-HP reciprocating plant air compressors.

These units were monitored electrically to establish a base line electrical consumption and they were then converted to AMSOIL REC Synthetic Reciprocating Compressor Oil.

Again, two significant things occurred:

1. First and most significant was the extremely noticeable reduction in the overall noise levels of these seven alternating reciprocating machines.

2. Then initial evaluation of the electrical consumption was somewhat lower in the range of 5%. However, because of the nature of reciprocating equipment, it takes a period of time before the lubricant penetrates into all moving parts of the machine.

We have had the opportunity to disassemble the cylinder heads on our oil-free medical air compressors and have observed virtually no carbon build-up on the Reed valves.

It is clearly evident that our evaluation has proved to us that the additional cost of synthetic lubricants is justified due to the reduction of electrical consumption and maintenance intervals.

Thank you for introducing these products to us.

Sincerely yours,

Ronald A. Hofer
